Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book.
It's hard to believe this was the author's first novel. This book is a new favorite. Such a heart-breaking, noir tale full of emotion. You feel so much of what the characters are going through. I hope to read more by this wonderful new author. Reminds me a lot of David Joy, Ron Rash, William Gay.
Wow! Where have I been?
I wish I had found this series a long time ago. This book was written so well and I loved every moment of it. I am looking forward to the next books so much I'm starting the second one immediately. The author knew how to put you right in the moment. The story of Moll, and her family and friends was so interesting and full of excitement, mystery, legends and myth. One of my new favorite books. Look so forward to more of this authors books!
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit slow for me. I'm used to more action- packed dystopian /apocalyptic tales. The main character I got attached to, while the kids just irked me to no end. I finished this in about 3 days because while it was a decent read, I kept putting down to read something more lively.
Stephen Graham Jones has never let me down. Everything he writes just glows and sticks with you. This was a very haunting tale about guilt and our minds, how the two combined can be our undoing. Being native American this was a terrifying story, but will be to anyone, no matter your heritage. Highly recommend.
This man can tell a tale
I loved every story in this book. Mer can tell takes and you feel like you are right there in it. The characters are always likeable and down to earth. There is a nice amount of humor to balance out the horror aspects. This makes the second story collection I have read by this author and I have just found a new favorite author!
I loved this book. Full of emotion and rage. The only thing I didn't care for is the cat killing and how long it took to get through it. ( I skipped over all this but it was at least 3 pages. Unnecessary.) Other than that, was a great book. I'm not gonna mark that as a spoiler because some people need to be warned.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. If you are looking for a story about the ways our lives can be haunted with the past, this is it. This is not your typical ghost story. It has a LOT of feeling and emotion. This book is about how life and our past can destroy us, if we let it. Loved this book!
