What I liked about it
- I liked everything about it. It sounded like she really did her research! I like how even if Grace and Neva had opposite stances when it comes to medical interventions they were still open to each other's opinions. I just loved the family dynamics and the characterisation. It was such a page turner and I just really enjoyed it. Made me cry at some bits!
-Sally Hepworth's writing will always be one of my faves, it really made me feel like I was there with them whenever they delivered the babies haha
What I didn't like about it
- I don't think I have any complaints although it does show some debut novel energy in it it's not so bad that I would complain. Some of the conflict felt anticlimactic with the resolution but not that I would complain about it.

What I liked about it
- I liked how the writing of Roder flowed from one state of the mother to another. It read as how it unraveled within the mother and it really took me along with her experience, confusion and all.
- I also really liked and disliked the commentary it made on motherhood. At first I was not really on board with how the mother stated that marriage and motherhood was like a cage made to trap women into. Personally it kind of felt insulting as, for me, being a mother was something I long to be. I acknowledge though that it (motherhood) might not be for everyone, and I'm speaking from a place of privelege because I know that even if I do become a mother I would not need to give up my job, unlike the mother, because of the difference of the nature of her work and mine. As we progressed through the book though, I can see how the mother ultimately embraced motherhood and how this new βawakeningβ inspired her project later on.
- I also really liked how the relationship between the mother and the son, and the mother and the husband has developed and changed throughout the book.
- The love the mother had for her son, despite her complaints, was so tangible I was honestly almost brought to tears, and it made me long to be a mum all the more π
- IT WAS WEIRD AND I LOVE ITTTTTTT UGHHHH
- I can't not rate it 5 stars honestly. I feel like I would be lying if I rate it any lower.
What I didn't like about it
- The animal abuse! I hated it...
- Hate the husband's lack of initiative but I'm glad all it took was for the mother to ask him for him to help out.
- I don't like how we don't really get a conclusion on the golden retriever crew, or did I miss something????
This one was quite a fun read for me, even if it was plot-driven. I usually prefer character-driven novels, but the plot was interesting enough for me to keep reading. This is the first book I ever read by a Kiwi author and it was so cool as it was also based in Welly (just as the author was). Not gonna lie it kinda made me miss Welly lol.
Anyways, on to what I liked, and what I didn't quite enjoy:
I like how the differences between the two time periods and types of family Etta and Constance had were shown. Although I feel like we still have more way to go, the freedom that Etta can enjoy now as a woman is certainly a big improvement from the times then. However, I do recognise that this is just one kind of family that existed in those times, it doesn't mean that all families were like Constance's.
I also really like how we were given flawed (very flawed) characters (besides Constance, she seems like an amazing girl π₯Ί), even if we didn't really get to see much character development.
Now on to the parts I didn't quite enjoy β while we're at the topic of the characters, I felt kind of indifferent to most of the characters, besides Constance. If I felt anything, it was dislike towards Constance's family and fiance but that is as much emotion I have towards the characters. I thought I would empathise with Jamie and Etta but I just really wanted justice for Constance through it all. I did feel like the characters weren't as fleshed out as I would like it to be, but the plot was interesting enough to keep reading.
I gave this one three stars cause it was an okay read, not laborious or boring, but also not something that blew me away. It was a good introduction for me to Kiwi Authors though, I will definitely explore more.
Idk man... I liked how funny it was at the beginning and how Aaron seemed to say all the right things.
But then it just started going downhill.... I can see how a guy like Aaron might appeal to people and how the way he acted and talked was alluring. But I don't know, I just didn't care for it the more he acted like he worships the very ground Lina walks on and him not showing any individuality. I don't know. I like it when guys are attentive and really makes an effort, but I also like a guy who has his own personality besides chasing me and pining over me and all that stuff, I don't know...
I was gonna give it a three stars but I remember giving The Unhoneymooners 3 stars and that was definitely a better read for me, so giving this 2. Maybe it just wasn't for me, sorry I don't know.
But hey, the smut was great so.... lmao
This book pretty much showed a lot of Sebastian and I had to go through doubting him and wanting to trust him and feeling bad for him the whooole time lol
As always Clary annoyed me, but that didn't keep me from wanting to go on because I was really curious how they would resolve the issues.
Also Magnus and Alec.... sigh....
