Not the best for represention but given the year it was written I think it can be forgiven (just). All things considered it's really not a bad read at all if you are in the mood for a short historic sapphic vampire story.

This was a re-read after a few years since the first read. It's a truly lovely read with wonderfully real characters to fall in love with.

This is a bit of a weird book. The reader is mostly in the head of the main character and you follow her inner thoughts as much as the storyline it's self. If you like a story with a bit of a strange vibe, where you really are not sure where the story is going (a lot like real life) and you like a plot about mother - daughter relationship and how screwed up they can become then you may well also very much enjoy this book.

If you are looking to get a really brief overview of British history with a sprinkle of British humour then I'd highly recommend this book. If you want anything more in depth or on the serious side then this probably isn't the right choice for you.

It's a storyline that has been used to many times but I still enjoyed the read and found the characters very relatable.

If you are look for a soppy head-over-heels sapphic romance with both well written spice and believable characters with a little depth to them you will love this book!

Great bedtime reading.

Really well written but with a very meh ending.

Read for the January 2025 Sapphfic Book Club readalong.

I did really enjoy this book, but... I was disappointed with the lack of content in the book about the lead characters falling in love or any spice between them (it is quite good for a younger audience though!). That being said it was still an excellent read dispite it actually being the size of a large house brick ;-).  The world building and character development is very good and it contains diverse relationships between men and women, both gay and straight from various backgrounds and religions. You just can't please everyone though and as a Sapphic fiction romance fan I'd say about 98% of this story is not a Sapphic romance dispite what other reviews and recommendations had lead me to believe. It is however a great fantasy book about dragons with a diverses cast of characters.

This was a re-read for me but probably due to how long the book is I really couldn't remember a lot of the storyline so it was well worth revisiting. This time I did cheat, I admit it, I did  listen to the audiobook version but it still took a couple of weeks for me to get through. I really do love this book, the only gripe I could ever have is the number of times the word “speculative” is used, but other than that it is a beautiful story and well worth giving it your time.

I really enjoyed this book but I found it very hard to follow what was going on. I think I will need to re-read it but the fact that I am willing to read it again proves to me that it must have been a very good book as I very rarely read a book more than once.

Unconventional, risky and something different.

Aimed at a much younger audience than myself so not all the books fault but not for me.

Deep and deals with many themes and storylines all at once and does it well.

Think Notting hill but with lesbians in a seaside town and instead of a bookshop it's a wine shop. If soppy romantic lesbian stories are your thing then this should tick your boxes

Simply (excuse the pun) the best sourdough bread book you can read / own.
