See allAn action packed thriller driven by a plot that unfolds at a breakneck pace. The main character seems to have indestructible plot armor and the ending left me a little unsatisfied, with more of a setup for the next book in the series, but a juggernaut of a scifi novel that fans of the genre will love. Very much enjoyed it and looking forward to the next installment.
A story within a story that nestles a mystery within a dramatic tale of love and growth. The writing is beautiful, even translated. The setting of Barcelona breathes around the narrative in a way that makes the setting feel alive and like this story couldn't happen anywhere else. Loved the way the mystery unfolds, spreading bread crumbs in a way the eventual reveal feels surprising yet predictable. Highly recommend and look forward to reading the rest of this author's work.
I really wanted to enjoy this book. But it's bloated, written like a fan fic, and the plot feels more like a bad DLC than a story.
There is some promise with the exploration of language and magic. But even that is barely explored and is overshadowed by bad writing and worse character development. I gave it a star for this magical element that showed some potential.
The 0.5 is for how good this series used to be. It was cool to go back to this universe. Left me feeling a little hollow at the end as there was so much potential to Murtagh being the lead character and providing a fresh perspective.
If you're an Inheritance fan you're probably gonna read this book. That's understandable and I'm curious to hear your thoughts. If you're an outsider considering diving in - I'd advise steering clear and saving yourself some time.
