I read this book when it first came out and the imagery of the black & white circus has stuck with me ever since. This reread was just as enchanting and magical as the first time I picked it up. It is full of beautiful writing that creates a vivid, striking world. Would happily read a third time.

I really struggled to finish this. The first book was so good- but Iron Flame takes a nosedive early on and just keeps falling hard. I had to remind myself these characters are in their 20's; the angst made me picture 16 year olds wearing the blackest of eyeliner (even the guys). There are redeeming moments, especially at the end, but overall the book is disappointing compared to the first.

Enjoyable political intrigue fantasy with unpredictable twists and turns. I think I liked this one better than the first simply because the world building is spoon fed as needed instead of dumped all at once. It was nice to see Joscelin finally pull the stick out of his ass.
