I'm gonna be thinking about this one for a while …
It started strong, continued strong, but then the penultimate chapter left me feeling a little dissatisfied. It seemed to kind of Deus Ex Machina / hand-wave the resolution in a way that must have been absolutely the hardest part of the book to write, but felt like a bit of a slog to read, when everything up to that point had been brisk, taught, engaging, and genuinely terrifying at times.
That being said — Definitely on my recommendations list. The characters were engaging, the concept was great, and I don't feel afraid reading very often, and this pulled it off beautifully at times.
