Again I would name it a 4.5 but imma give it 5 stars.
It wasn't as heart wrenching as Pestilence but the end still got me.
And let me tell you something. Of course the cover should be self explanatory enough for you to know what to expect in the book. But aside from that, Laura makes one of the most clear scenes I've ever read. It feels so easy for me to picture what she is writing and in this books is what ends up breaking me.
So aside from sex on a stick War, be prepared for some difficult to diggest scenes.
It's a 4.5 but I'm gonna give it a 5 because that 0.5 left is just me not getting that "this-is-the-one" feeling but it also doesn't have anything wrong with it.
I cried a lot with this book, don't even ask me why. It's just all the situations that Sara goes through, they got me.
I don't even think I was expecting any of the stuff I read, and it was better than what I could've expected.

I really thought about wheather I was gonna give it one or two stars...
I was not worth it, but it got me out of my reading block.
Still, the plot was good but the writing and world building and hierarchies... it was a fat nope.
Do not let this stop you from reading the book tho, you never know what you're gonna find yourself liking.
I was about to give it a 4.75 until I read the epilogue... and now I need more, and this is is a 5* book for me and as of right now? My favorite fantasy books of 2021 and I can't wait until december for the third book.
edit: Oh my gods the third book is about Evaraine and I CANT WAIT. I was nervous becuse Kyrion and Leisa's stort was left super well closed and to be honest I'd lie if I didn't say I was fantasizing about an Evaraine and Danric book and all together with the epilogue and blurb of the third book? I'm reeling, I need it now😭
This whole book was like a fever dream. It was Oz, it had Alice, but instead of a white rabbit it as a border collie. I just- I think there's no better way to describe it than saying it felt like a fever dream.
It started cool, right? A town next to some magic woods (kinda), goblin market, two sisters and then all of a sudden I was falling down the rabbit hole.
It wasn't bad, but I felt like I was being played like a tennis ball, up, down and never really understanding anything that was going on until some of the characters explained it.
I'm actually intrigued as to what's gonna happen next because damn right I didn't expect that ending at all. So March 15 here I come. I need to know what will happen.
It's actually a 3.5 but until Goodreads lets me add halves it's gonna stay at 3*.
I've finished A Touch of Ruin today, and again, a 3.5 stars.
Was it better than A Touch of Darkness? Yes.
Was it "Persephone not listening to anyone, fucking up and then crying about it" three times in a row? Also yes.
I liked that Scarlett explored Hades and Persephone's relationship and that all those toxic flaws got out. If they managed them well or not, that's another day's conversation.
Also Persephone's way to understanding her surroundings was good but I just wished it didn't feel like she had to be explained things a thousand times before she understood them. It was so frustrating.
Also... can they, like, talk to each other to solve their problems? Okay, I get it, the need to have sex with each other is DEFINITELY there. But... I don't know, I feel like just having sex won't solve your problems... don't you think? After the second time they made this mistake... I honestly lost hope for them.
In A Game of Fate I left in Aphrodite & Hephaestus' ship. In this one I left in Apollo & Hyacinth AND waiting to board Lexa & Thanatos' one.
I'd LOVE a book about Lexa and Thanatos. That'd be such an interesting pair to put together, it would bring a lot of conversation to the table.
I have slightly higher hopes for A Game of Retribution, seeing as I like Hades POV's much better and have much more action.
Still, I would recommend this books, they've been entertaining and I couldn't put them down which gives them points in their favor. And also Greek mythology, am I right?
This one is also a 3.5 buuuut I'm rounding it up because I liked it better than A touch of darkness.
It was obvious that being a Hades POV novel there would be much more action (and I am a sucker for bloodshed).
I just have one complaint. That line where Hades LITERALLY objectifies Persephone... oh no, I'm not up for that. I know their relationship has flaws and I hope they are explored at some point but... he literally called her object. That's a NO from me.
The thing that left me most intrigued was Aphrodite's and Hephaestus' relationship. I know Scarlett says at the end that they'll have their own book... BUT I CAN'T WAIT. I'm real intrigued by the way their marriage and relationship works (or moslt likely doesn't).
Edit: I forgot to mention that I really loved Scarlett's note at the end of the book explaining how she came up with the retellings. That was a super nice touch i really appreciated!

I really enjoyed the story, it felt quite like a 2016 Wattpad story, although much better written. But it brought me back to those times where I didn't care as much about an amazing book as I wanted to get absorbed by the story.
I gotta say this kind of light reads always get me out of reading slumps, which was where I'd been when I started reading it. And now I'm hooked and will keep reading the rest of this series 😂

I swear, in the last 40 pages, Scarlett, did you really have to pull a After? (Bear in mind I don't know which story got out first, but damn) Everything was good and smooth until the "we fell in love because of a bet" trope made an appearance 😭 I think that and Hades always waking Sephy up to get sex without even letting her fully awaken, like dude... I don't know it's one of the things that made me cringe each time🤷🏼♀️
I am devastated. I don't even think I'll be able to pick up Ruthless Gods before having processed the last three chapters of this book and it's epilogue.
I've never felt so betrayed by a character as I've been by Malachiasz. I kinda want to think I felt like Nadya when reading those last chapters.
It was like I saw it coming, but I also didn't want to believe it, CAUSE I HAD FAITH. I had faith in him and now here we are. I'd be crying, but I much rather scream at the book to let that fristration out.
That's it. I have nothing left to say. I just need to get rid of the book hangover this is giving me to pick up Ruthless Gods.
I loved it. I have to say I'm one to love faerie tale like stories and Holly didn't disappoint with this book - and most definitely not with the other ones! Her faerie world building and narrative is one of the best there is. I'll never stop saying that.
Cardan's story felt like a bedtime one where you just want to know more and more even after it's finished.
It was so very different as to what I was expecting, but I feel like it was so much better and so much worthy than what I thought it would be❤️
I have no words. Fable's story was moving and a rollercoster of emotions all along the book.
I really loved how the love story happend to be. No rushing, not a sugar coted one either. While reading you can pin point those scenes. Those where you are like, yes it is happening.
Ugh, I don't know how to explain it, but this book is definitely on my top reads of this year, and I can't wait for part two!
Look, the plot is good, follows up amazingly from the second book, but I find it really excessive that 500 out of the 600 pages this book has are all fluff, some sex and a lot of stuff I really don't remember anymore at this point.
Only the last 100 pages started to really engage me, because Poppy finally seems to be getting the strong, smart ass bitch out of her. And we love to see it, honestly.
But the final 28 pages... GODS, YES. That's where it's at. That ending was amazing, and it leaves you lost and wanting more.
But here comes my question... why not make the book 50/50? Why couldn't we get action and fluff in equal parts?
Also, Cas, hun, there are some comments you should keep to yourself, cause your character went from “he has potential” to “ew why would you say that”.
And that's it. I needed to get this off my chest.
ps: To be honest I feel like the first 500 pages deserve a 3* and the last 100 can get the 5*.
It's over. And this will be the shittiest review ever. But I've never cried this much with a book. I actually never cry because of books. So here you go. I spent 10 minutes crying just because of the last line in the acknowledgements.
So yeah. This saga was amazing and a pleasure to read and get to know its characters. I don't regret it at all.
