Daniel currently works as the Learning Resource Center Coordinator at Minnesota State College — Southeast, where he teaches writing, and tutors students in math, writing, and science. He received his MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University. While attending Hamline, he studied under great writers such as national book honor winner E. Lockhart, picture book great Phyllis Root, Caldecott Award Winner Jacqueline Briggs Martin, Kate DiCammillo’s writing teacher and Minnesota Book Award Winner Jane Resh Thomas, and two time Newbury Honor Winner Gary Schmidt. He lives in Red Wing, Minnesota with his wife Heather, daughter LaVonne, and sons Grace and Haven.
