Author Bio

David Arnold is a multiple award–winning British film and television composer. Best known for his work on films such as Independence Day, Stargate, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, he also took over the mantle from John Barry to compose the music for five James Bond films, including Casino Royale, for which he was nominated for a Grammy Award, a BAFTA, and won Best Song at the World Soundtrack Awards. Other film scores include Godzilla, Shaft, Zoolander, Hot Fuzz, Made in Dagenham, Paul, and The Stepford Wives, among many others.

Mr. Arnold’s television work includes Little Britain and Little Britain USA, and with Michael Price, the BAFTA-nominated and Emmy-winning score for the BBC’s Sherlock. In addition to his film and television work, he wrote the music for the West End musical Made in Dagenham, starring Gemma Arterton.

Mr. Arnold’s honors include Grammy, Emmy, Ivor Novello, and Royal Television Society awards, and most recently he won the music category of the British Inspiration Awards. In 2012 he was appointed musical director for the London Olympics and Paralympics closing ceremonies, and was also involved in one of the highlights of the Jubilee Thames Flotilla: creating a new arrangement of the “James Bond Theme” as the queen passed by MI6 headquarters.

As well as being a renowned film composer, Mr. Arnold is an artist, record producer, songwriter, and conductor, who has worked with Queen, Chrissie Hynde, Iggy Pop, Paloma Faith, George Michael, Massive Attack, the Kaiser Chiefs, Shirley Manson, Damien Rice, Shirley Bassey, and Paul McCartney.
