Elizabeth Hall was born in Bakersfield, California. She received her B.A. in English from Fresno State College and was working as a public librarian in Shafter, California, when she met and fell in love with the author Scott O'Dell. He encourage her to pursue writing, and her first children’s book, *Micromegas*, was published in 1967. She wrote four more books for children and then stopped writing to work as the Managing Editor at *Psychology Today*. In 1975, *Psychology Today* moved from California to New York City, and she relocated as well. In 1976 she left to found the periodical *Human Nature*. When that magazine failed, she began writing psychology and human development college textbooks.
In 1992, three years after the death of her husband, Hall completed his final novel, *Thunder Rolling in the Mountains*.
In 2002, Hall remarried and currently lives in Westchester County, NY.
