The Daily Telegraph, of London, published an obituary for Captain John Edward Robson on January 3rd, 2012, from which most of the following was extracted.

Robson was born in London, went to school at Haileybury, and started to read Natural Sciences at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge in 1941. However, he left in the summer of 1942, went to Sandhurst, joined the Lancers, fought with distinction in Italy, and was awarded the Military Cross.

For thirty years he worked for Samuel Osborn and Company, a Sheffield-based steelmaker and manufacturer of engineering tools, ending up as its managing director. He retired in 1978 to farm in Sussex and then in Ashdown Forest.

Robson was an enthusiastic sportsman who enjoyed falconry, stalking, and particularly hunting with hounds. He started to ride at an early age, served as the Master and Chairman of the Old Surrey & Burstow Hunt, and in 2001 published a book about it.
