Peter de Jonge was born in Stamford, Ct and except for three years in Switzerland as a child, grew up there. After graduating from Princeton University in 1977, Peter worked for weekly papers in Ridgefield, Wilton and Redding, Connecticut, and for the Associated Press in Newark and Albany.
In the mid-eighties, he opted for a job in advertising that could support a move to New York City. While employed as a copywriter at J. Walter Thompson, Peter continued writing articles, this time for magazines including The New York Times and National Geographic. When those pieces came to the attention of James Patterson, an executive at JWT who was just establishing himself as a best selling author, instead of firing Peter for slacking on the job, he hired Peter to be the first of his many co-authors on the golf novel “Miracle on the 17th Green.” (1996).
After two more partnerships with Patterson on “Beach House” (2003) and “ Beach Road” (2006), Peter broke off to create his own critically acclaimed series featuring NYPD Detective Darlene O’Hara, modeled in part on NYPD Homicide Detective Donna Torres. “Shadows Still Remain” was published in 2009 and “Buried on Avenue B” in 2012.
Peter is married, has two sons, and lives and works on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, though he feels a particular affinity for the East Village where he sets many of his stories.
