White was born in Philadelphia in 1970 and grew up there in black neighborhoods. Violence, drugs and death played a major role in his everyday life as a teenager, which also influenced his later work as a writer. He first became a kickboxer in the World Class Heavyweight, then a trainer for various martial arts. He published his first book in 2002 and has since written nine novels, four novellas and various short stories, which have been published in three collections. White lives with his wife and three children in Austin, Texas.
