A Good Man

"Wesley Case, the son of a wealth lumber baron, turns from his father's ambitions for him and sets out to make his own way in the world, far from Ottawa and the life his father expects for him in politics. After a brief military career, Wesley serves a short term with the North-West Mounted Police in the Cypress Hills, where he comes to know the wilful, unpredictable Major James Walsh, whose sympathies with the Sioux are destined for tragedy. Case leaves Fort Walsh for the simpler life of a rancher, and he journeys south to Fort Benton, Montana. But all is not tranquil. He soon finds himself party to the conflict with native tribes that creates escalating tensions between Canada and the U.S. ... Along the way, Case will cross paths with Confederate conspirators, a sinister member of the first Canadian secret service, Fenian revolutionaries, and ultimately he will come face to face with the enigmatic Sioux Chief Sitting Bull"--Jacket.
