A somewhat obscure little book (at 165 pages) which collects together excerpts from a wide variety of books which fit into the exciting and adventurous theme. The excerpts are particularly well selected - in that they are read as complete - ie no references to what happened earlier, and they have a conclusion, and they are varied and interesting.
With regard to varied - there are two jungle stories, a Bruce McLaren excerpt about car racing, two submarine stories, couple of sailing stories, a raft story, three flying stories (a glider, an ejection seat testing, and one flying story that is really a crashing story) a story about sharks, and one on wolves in Canada, a mountain climbing story, an Antarctica story and one about the moon!
For me personally, I was pleased to see it included two New Zealand Icons (Bruce McLaren and Sir Ed Hillary (actually Sir Ed was in the Everest and the Antarctica stories) as well as the sailing story which visited New Zealand, so there was an over-representation for us!
4 stars for me.
