I thought this was one of the better installments in the series. Lots of action, starting with a killer tornado. Soon Kate is trying to solve a murder without even knowing the identity of the victim, while also dealing with a possible lawsuit AND a major challenge to her relationship with Tomasetti. The last chapter actually gave me a lump in my throat from too many feels.
Generally speaking, Kate Burkholder's character is cliched - a tough police chief who really cares too much. But as Linda Castillo has developed her on paper over the past seven books, she has much greater depth and nuance, and the close interactions with the Amish community give the series a unique flavor.
Looking forward to summer 2016's Kate Burkholder novel already!
