Neste livro vão-se desdobrando os mais diversos assuntos. Abordam-se as tradições Platónicas, Pitagórica, Hermética, Gnóstica, Cristã e Judaica, que tiveram grandes desenvolvimentos em Alexandria. E, por semelhança ou contraste, são aflorados a Vedanta, a Samkhya, a Yoga, O Budismo, O Mazdeísmo, O Mitraísmo, O Islamismo e sua vertente Sufi...
Fazem-se referências a grandes Filósofos que ensinaram ou estiveram em Alexandria: Amónio Saccas, Plotino, Porfírio, Jâmblico, Hypátia, Proclo, Fílon... e muitos outros, talvez menores. Ainda no domínio da Filosofia, e avançando no tempo, referem-se Agostinho e Tomás Aquino; Boécio, o Pseudo Areopagita e Escoto Erígena; Al-Farabi e avicena; Eckart e Tauler; Giordano Bruno, Spinoza e Leibniz; Kant, Schelling e Hegel...; recuando no tempo, Pitágoras, Platão, Aristóteles, os Estóicos, vários Pré-Socráticos...
Fala-se de Cristãos muito influentes em Alexandria: Clemente, Orígenes, Atanásio e Cirílo; e, sempre a propósito, mencionam-se Ário e Nestório, S. Paulo, os Concílios onde se foi definindo - ou confundindo - a Teologia Cristã. Considera-se a verdadeira vida de Jesus... nos séculos II e I a.C.. Pondera-se de "quem" e "onde" surgiram os Evangelhos Canónicos (talvez nenhum deles fosse estranho a Alexandria...), sem esquecer vários considerados apócrifos. Alude-se às questões da Trindade e da Virgem-Mãe, bem como a outros protótipos das religiões antigas dos quais foi decalcada a Legenda Cristã.
Em Alexandria houve grandes instrutores Gnósticos: Basílides, Valentim e até Simão, o Mago, acrescendo outros menos conhecidos: Carpócrates, Cerinto, Apeles... Não podia
faltar referência aos Terapeutas e aos Essénios, aos Nazarenos e aos Ebionitas, aos Ofitas e aos Sethianos, aos Maniqueus, aos Priscilianos, aos Cátaros...
O Hermetismo irradiou intensamente em Alexandria. Assim, apresentam-se e comentam-se as Leis herméticas neste livro. A propósito de duas delas, do Holismo/Mentalismo, e da Vibração, conceitos da Ciência moderna afloram naturalmente, invocando-se concepções de Newton e Einstein, Schrodinger e N. bohr, Millikan, Eddington, Oppenheimer, D. Bohm, Hawking e R. Boyle, como a propósito das influências da tradição Platónico-Pitagórica se referem Copérnico, Kepler e Galileu. E não há só figuras da Ciência Moderna e surgir neste livro. Com mais ênfase se consideram as que viveram em Alexandria: homens como Aristarco, Arquimedes, Euclides, Ptolomeu, Hiparco, Eratóstenes, Herófilo, Erasístrato, Galeno, etc.
Da mesma forma, se tratam ilustres nomes da Cultura: Apeles, o pintor, Dinócrates, Calímaco, Dionísio da Trácia, Longino, Maneto, teócrito, etc. (de Alexandria); Bach, Wagner, Boticelli, da Vinci, Miguel Ângelo, W. Blake, Virgílio, Dante, Petrarca, Shelley, Goethe, Schiller, Holderlin, Camões e F. Pessoa (de outros tempos e lugares)...
Também a Alquimia, a Cabala e outros ramos do Ocultismo floresceram em Alexandria;
destacam-se as figuras de Zózimo, Sinésio, Olimpiodoro e Cleópatra. Mais tarde, noutras paragens, surgiram nomes referidos no livro: M. Ficino, Pico Mirandola, Boehme, Henry Moore... É ainda mencionada a Astrologia mas derivando-se para abordagens habitualmente ignoradas. E, enfim, a vários pretextos, muitos pontos da Cosmogénese, da Antropogénese e da psicologia Esotéricas são apresentados e explicitados, interpretando e aplicando os sábios ensinamentos, legados, sobretudo, por Helena Blavatsky.
