Grant Morrison has done a job that surpasses Moore's already brilliant work in “The Last Story of Superman.” Moore gave life to a twilight novella, in which the past closed in blood, the ultimate sacrifice in the name of the future.
Superman, in “All-Star,” is no different; indeed, he makes it clear from the very beginning. No tricks, no shortcuts. It is the end, but it cannot end in a moment. There is still so much work, so many feats, so much to review. Nostalgia and novelty go hand in hand in a series of intense, flowing, moving episodes. Nothing, in the end, is left unfinished, and Morrison impeccably prepares the world of ‘Supes' for a world without Superman. With sadness, but with a genuine sense of hope, with a death that may not be one...if anyone has read “Justice League: 1 Million”...
