What started out as a pleasant little read turned into a page turning amazing book! I didn't expect to fall in love with Sarah, Jackson, and Richard. I didn't expect to start pitying her mother. I didn't expect this book.
The love triangle is compelling because both boys seem to have good points and bad ones. There is no clear winner and I'm okay with that. The characters are complex and full of their own issues that shape who they are. You can't simply love one and hate another because they all have their scars that make them human and faulty. They each make their mistakes and they each have their moments to shine.
The plot is not straightforward, but it isn't complicated for the sake of being complicated. We discover the secrets of Amber House and it's people along with Sarah. I never once felt the author(s) was writing extra words or chapters just expand the series and sell more books. The author(s) were telling the story and taking us through the twists and turns of the plot.
The book is well written and exciting. I can't wait to read the next one.
