A woman locked within her house meets a woman locked within herself.
Annalie was once a prominent violinist and she let her ex take that away from her. Then she was a famous author and she let the critics and lack of sales take that away from her. Soon her own fears and anxieties lock her in her home. She is still writing though and needs an assistant and a professor connects her with Cam. Cam just lost a scholarship opportunity because she was afraid of speaking out against a harasser. She is not really writing the dissertation she wants to write because of her fears. She still has not come out to her mother so she does not advertise her “gayness” like she wants to. Fear is what they have in common, but their attraction is the unexpected bond which just might overcome that fear.
This is the third in a series and can be read as a stand alone as I did not know this was even part of a series “Romancing the Page”. It is a novella which is why I did not give a lot of detail above nor will I here. Laura Ambrose and Laura Lam bring a really solid romance to such a short tale in An Unheard Song. Annalie and Cam take the time to get to know each other and the attraction is not rushed. The sex is decent though not graphic and does not take place in the usual spot and the foreplay is unusual which I like. The story deals with the real issues of sexual harassment and anxiety. This is a story you can end the workday with and feel refreshed and believing in love again.
