Prior to viewing this collection, I had not heard of the Ink Nymphs before, but after finishing this book, I wish I had learned of them sooner. This collection of images (over 200) of them is visually stunning, and would greatly appeal to tattoo lovers, photography lovers and anyone who loves physical beauty in general. This photo portfolio of Nelson Blanton demonstrates the epitome of Californian beauty, with his pictures being honest and playful, with elements of eroticism . Sometimes the girls are the centre of the shots, and sometimes the tattoos are, but every single shot is candidly beautiful.
Indeed, some of these shots even appear to be candids, and show a joy and intimacy that can't be staged. And of course, every girl who is featured is beautiful, but Nelson's talent makes them even more beautiful. Without his artistic gaze, none of these pictures would be as profound and elegant as they are.
I love that although this is about a specific group of girls, it doesn't feature just one type of girl; there are different races, different heights, different fashion styles, different hair styles, girls with piercings and girls without them all featured. There is something for everyone in this, and many different kinds of ‘alternative' are highlighted.
Put simply, this collection is gorgeous and refreshing. Every shot is captured artfully and with care, and the shorts of the tattoos by themselves are a lovely contrast to the shots of the girls. I would love to see more of Nelson Blanton's work and more of these girls.
