This is a moving, expansive family saga, filled with scenes from before, during, and after an eventful summer in 1948 when tragedy strikes a Connecticut Jewish family. The timeline is convoluted–it's told from the point of view of Molly, a 12-year-old girl in 1948, looking back on the events from her perspective in 1999, but it almost has to be in order to cover all the ground it does.
