Betrayal

Samril Shyford was betrayed, just like the prophecy said he would be. After seeing his former mentor brought to justice in the Westfield virus scandal, Sam goes off to Ceynes where he'll serve as personal mage to Emperor Phaerel. If he understands the prophecy correctly, taking that post is meant to be. Sam dives into his work, advising the emperor on various matters of state, but soon finds that all of his advice is being contradicted. Someone is working against him. When Emperor Phaerel's bride becomes mysteriously ill, Sam races from one crisis to another, trying to save the empress and her unborn child while still speeding along the prophecy, wanting the world to finally see freedom. Along the way, he discovers that his mentor's betrayal was not the one the prophecy meant...
