Graphic novels can be rough. I gladly would have given this more stars just for the art had I not just wasted an hour reading a graphic novel with no story. We watch characters float around and do stupid things. I don't believe the reasons this book didn't “speak” to me was because: I didn't grow up in the seventies OR live in the Pacific Northwest OR spend my teenage years in a drugged out wasteland. Middle class, white kid ennui- I am so over it. We follow Chris and Keith around. There is a great deal of drinking, drugs, sex and nightmares. It gets old. Quick.
No one is angry that they are suffering from mutation. No one protects themselves during sex. Why? It's not the lack of public education about the virus mutating the youth. Nope, it's not even that these kids are dumb. It's that they HATE themselves. Each and every character in this story hates themselves.
That hate comes through the pages, into the reader's mind and makes us hate them too. So I just didn't care. I'm assuming there is no ending because it's ongoing? I wont be revisiting.
