Roze was having a bad day and then she got kidnapped. Implanted with alien bones. Then sold at auction. Could it get any worse?
Roze, Tiffany, and Alex were out in the “safe” zone of magic land. All Roze wanted was a distraction for the mess her life had become. Tiffany and Amy are the best friends who came along to make sure she did not drown in her sorrows. Then two gorgeous men walk into the bar: Cato and Beron. They were not Roze's down fall though.
It was the men who came into the bar and shot up the place. The next thing the girls know is that they are laying on operating tables with huge surgical scars. Then they are being dragged onto an auction block. Sold as cattle with magical bones implanted in them. The bones may or may not kill them as the recipients do not usually survive the transplants.
Sold into servitude for five years. Don't obey: severe pain or death. Try to escape: severe pain or death. If your owner tries to free you: severe pain or death. If your owner does not give you an order: severe pain or death. So...severe pain or death if they live through the implantation.
Daniella Wright takes readers through an intense drama-filled story in Bought by the Masters (Amazon, B082J3DMVY, 2019). Do not let the title fool you, this is not your typical Reverse Harem story. This deals directly with the slave trade industry. Wright deals head-on with suicide and the rape of mind and body (though the girls are not sexually raped).
The physical relations which end up developing between Roze, Cato, and Beron are tame and are not the priority of the story. How people deal with the slave trade, people who have been freed from slavery, and those who are still slaves. I do not want to make this sound like a real heavy story though as it is a fantasy romance novel. Wright does not shy away from the real issues revolving around this issue while still giving time to the romance that develops.
I give credit to Wright for keeping that balance in not drowning the reader in the emotion of the reality, but keeping us connected and caring. I cannot wait to read the next story as I have to assume there is a next one because I want to know what happens to Alex and...Tiffany. Once you read Bought, you'll be breathlessly waiting for the next book too. ✶✶✶✶
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
