This is perhaps one of the best, and one of the most frustrating books of this series yet.
It is one of the best because it is one of the most compelling: Harry finds out that he has a daughter...and she is missing....and those who may have taken her want to use her for a blood sacrifice that could end the battle between the Red Court Vampires and the Church, once and for all.
This is an excellent premise that instantly lends sympathy for Harry and those who work with him to find his daughter. I thought that it was well done and the journey to get to her felt well earned in terms of its tension and gravity.
As for the frustrating aspects of this book, for one there are some things that Harry does here that I just don't like. Even considering his emotionally compramised state, some of the things he does are just stupid. Also this book has a final-battle style of climax, which I am starting to think is getting kind of old, now as we have seen it done better many times before.
Maybe it is because I have read almost 7 books in the series this year alone, and I could just be tired of reading Jim Butcher, but I just didn't feel the compulsory need to read this book like the others. Still, this may have more to do with me than the book itself.
I liked this story, and I think that I am excited to see where the story goes next, especially after that cliffhanger ending. I give it a four out of five.
