The problem with the star scale that Goodreads employs is this: just because I found a book to be very well written, very important, or very engaging does not automatically indicate that I “liked”, “really liked” or “loved” the book. Such is the case with Columbine. Journalist [a:Dave Cullen 1116816 Dave Cullen http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1243888758p2/1116816.jpg]'s in-depth examination of the school shooting in Littleton in 1999 is all of these things - the writing is gripping, moving, and evocative, his research is extensive, and the book provides many possible answers (as well as invoking many questions) to those interested in understanding what happened, why, and what it meant or means. These things make Columbine a book that should be read and shared and discussed, but do not make it a reading experience that one can enjoy, I don't believe. Cullen's tale is heartwrenching, disturbing, maddening, scientific, exacting, depressing, and hopeful; it is not fun.
