When young Alexandra Tempest went alone to the uncilivised regions of the Amazon to look for her father she was prepared to find life very different from the security of her English home. But she hadn't expected to find it downright unpleasant and dangerous, so at first she was grateful to the masterful Declan O'Rourke when he whisked her out of a difficult situation and proceeded to take firm charge of her.
