I see a lot of rave reviews for this book, but I wasn't very impressed. I agree with the sentiment that Amelia Peabody is a very entertaining, funny, and unusual character. She's smart and sassy, something that's rare in the stereotype of women from the book's time period. The mystery was just awful, though. No matter how much I liked Peabody, it just couldn't make up for the uncreative and dull mystery plot. Additionally, I didn't care for Evelyn nor her romantic escapades. I don't plan on reading more by Peters just yet, but I may pick up another before I completely give up this series. I did enjoy the great descriptions of Egypt and the archeology which barely brought this book up to 2 stars instead of 1.
