This was my first time reading a book by Mark and I can't say that it will be the last!
I read this book on Pigeonhole and whilst some of my fellow Pigeonholers managed to figure out who had kidnapped Kieron I couldn't decide! At each turn of the page, I jumped from one character to the next!
I loved Tom, Hendricks and Paula, but really disliked Dean, Angie, and Boyle (another character in a recently read book that I really wanted to give a slap to!).
The book also made a good point of showing why it's never good to assume the guilt of a suspect without all the facts and the role the media can play in this! There was a classic case of why you should never judge a book by its cover!
Thank you to Mark and Pigeonhole for the chance to read this book.
Perhaps the best Tom Thorne novel for a number of years. Set in 1996 the time is evoked with Mark Billingham's usual humour and detail.
A young boy goes missing, the search for him takes in some literal dead ends before a satisfying ending which isn't signposted earlier. Tom Thorne's nascent career and the early appearance of names and faces familiar from the other novels make it a great read for Thorne fans and those new to the series
