My first Valerie Hansen, and it definitely won't be my last. It was fun to read a thriller set in my home state, and I liked how the culture was gently woven in: driving pickups, using ATVs, putting family first (everyone is the country is related to someone in the next town or county and people do keep up with how far removed their cousins are), going to church, stopping on the highway to help a truck shoved off the road...and having a fully functioning grapevine of “news” (though this last only made slight appearance in the actual story, the town still knew exactly who Mark's dad was.)
I really enjoyed the characters and was totally at sea about the culprits more than once. An excellent mystery and a fun twist on the usual law-enforcement angle, with Flint being in Game and Fish.
