New York Times bestseller Lisa Kleypas returns with an enthralling and steamy romance between a Scot with a mysterious past and strong-willed lady looking for adventure—and love. “The devil never tries to make people do the wrong thing by scaring them. He does it by tempting them.” Lady Merritt Sterling, a strong-willed beauty who runs a shipping company, knows London society is dying to catch her in a scandal. So far, she’s been too smart to provide them with one. But then she meets Keir MacRae, a rough-and-rugged Scottish whisky distiller, and all her sensible plans vanish like smoke. They couldn’t be more different, but their attraction is powerful, raw and irresistible. From the moment Keir MacRae arrives in London, he has two goals. One: don’t fall in love with the dazzling Lady Merritt Sterling. Two: avoid being killed. So far, neither of those is going well. Keir doesn’t know why someone wants him dead until fate reveals the secret of his mysterious past. His world is thrown into upheaval, and the only one he trusts is Merritt. Their passion blazes with an intensity Merritt has never known before, making her long for the one thing she can’t have from Keir MacRae: forever. As danger draws closer, she’ll do whatever it takes to save the man she loves . . . even knowing he might be the devil in disguise.

(3.5, rounding up.) This was just a little bit silly and the plot was definitely overstuffed, but I enjoyed it more than I was expecting to!
Great end to the Ravenel series! Although the title would be a spoiler to anyone who's read others in this series or the Wallflowers, I'll spare any details except to say that some of my favorite characters return here in fun ways. I'm writing this review way late, but suffice it to say I will keep & re-read this one and found it sexy and fun.
update: at first I rated this 3 stars but then I saw the current rating was 4.12 which it definitely did NOT deserve so I decided to knock it down to 2 stars.
3 stars for Devil in Winter fans. Very weak as a standalone but who cares?? It has Sebastian and Evie in it!! Since I'm a sucker for them, I, and the other fans, will definitely read any book that features them and boy, how the publisher is fully aware of this. At this point, they're just milking Sebastian and the rest of the Wallflowers characters until the fans have had enough.
For non-Kleypas readers, this book only rates 2 stars, so only read this when you have nothing to do and are just looking for some random books to fill your time. Do not expect much from this book but please don't let this book discourage you from trying out Kleypas' other (much better) books
