This suspense novel follows the protagonist, Rosaria's, journey through her past after the death of her rock star daughter, Annalisa. Several dark themes come to the fore: guilt and forgiveness, addiction and death, suicide and even murder. The relationship between mother and daughter is portrayed as intricate, and when Annalisa dies under suspicious circumstances, Rosaria begins to question her own choices and the impact they might have had on Annalisa. Then there is the grandchild of whose existence Rosaria was not aware.

Hierdie boek het my totaal oorbluf gelaat.
Die aanhaling uit Ian McEwan se roman The Cement Garden beskryf die boek perfek: “At the back of my mind I had a sense of sitting about waiting for some terrible event, and then I would remember that it had already happenend.”
