Perhaps the greatest challenge of reading this book is simply just being able to keep your thoughts together, because Herr sure didn’t. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing because it is by far one of the most damning recollections of a war I’ve ever read.
Incredibly addictive and terrifying, an all encapsulating experience that feels like euphoric nightmare. My only regret is that I did not read this sooner and faster.
Yeah this might be an all time favorite. Herr certainly just wrote his thoughts down as they came back to him years later but it doesn’t matter because what’s here is one of the most important pieces of history in one of the worst wars ever fought by US.
The fact that more people haven’t read this brilliant piece is unbelievable.
