Dread Nation

Wow. Not what I expected from a zombie novel. Jane and Katherine are very compelling characters and the post-Civil War world of this zombie apocalypse holds your attention. I love that the author dug into the racial politics of the world instead of presenting the civil war as having saved Black people from racism. I also like that romance wasn't a focus but the growing friendship between Jane and Katherine as they learn to survive the world together and rely on each other's skills.
