When the Duke of Marlborough proposes a dangerous undercover mission, Captain Daniel Rawson happily accepts. One of their spies, a tapestry-maker based at the court of the Sun King, Louis XIV, has gone missing and Daniel is instructed to find out what has happened to him. Rawson journeys to France where he finds distraction in the form of the tapestry-maker's beautiful daughter Amalia. Meanwhile, back in camp, the wide-eyed nephew of Rawson's stalwart Sergeant Welbeck has joined the army as a drummer boy, and the Duke of Marlborough is looking to prove his victory at Blenheim was more than a fluke.
