I watched the Netflix movie first (it is CU-UTE, go watch it immediately), but I still enjoyed the book a lot. Though I absolutely see why the movie-makers made the changes they did, particularly with the talent portions of the pageant and exploring Willowdean's relationship with her late aunt, Lucy. 3.5 stars.
