If I go broke, SJM is gonna be one of the main reasons because now I want to read ACOTAR and Cresent City so badly, but I also know that they aren't finished, as in, they're still being written. As a result, I think I'll wait before selling my soul to the devil and suffering from cliff hangers.
As for Empire of Storms though, this book gave me so many heart attacks, but it was all worth it. I'm lowkey upset that I have to read Tower of Dawn before figuring out what happens to Aelin in Kingdom of Ash, but I'll be ok.
One thing that I didn't like about this book, or any of the books actually is how perfect the characters are.
Rowan is bad-boy supreme, but to me, it seems like he has no flaws at all. Same with Aelin - although her actions of killing may be a flaw, considering the setting, it really isn't. This is why Manon and Dorian are really my favorite characters. Dorian is so different and his flaw (just my opinion - being heartless with a lack of remorse at times) makes him more complex and human. Same with Manon - her indifference towards bloodshed and life gives her layers and depth, making her a better hero (like Batman - his flaws are what make him an amazing hero).
I also really disliked how Elide was just moping at the end. It just disheartened me so much that she wasn't going to run because it wasn't “courageous.” Obviously I could've interpreted wrong, but it just irritated me.
Otherwise, the amount of sadness at the end really broke me a bit (in a good way). I've really become attached to the characters, and I haven't felt that sort of sadness for the plight of a character in a long time.
