With modern-day 1950s vibes, there was little chance I'd be disappointed in this book. That it was set in an ice cream shop/diner only added to my enjoyment. I loved the map aspect of this short story. So creative! The cast was adorable, and it was fun to read a story through the eyes of a child. I love small-town stories, and this one was special because it was confined to a single location. That isn't always an easy thing to pull off for any amount of pages, but Miss Willis made this look super easy.
There were a couple of inconsistencies, particularly with the stations the kids worked, but this did not hamper my enjoyment of this story. For about half the story, I was confused as to why the menus were being thrown away, but it finally got explained. Still, it felt wasteful and a larger expense than a small shop would want or be able to shell out.
I'm interested in reading more short stories and longer books by this author. Her voice is unique and sweet, and she has a lot to bring to the Christian fiction market.
