I have to laugh as I read the synopsis again as it does Erin Louis and her book Expose Yourself a disservice. This book is nothing like Fifty Shades of Grey - I really liked this book and I hated Grey. Louis gives sound advice with lots of humor interjected throughout. Is there anything we do not really know in this book? No. But Louis gives one heck of a pep talk.
“...refusing to face uncomfortable truths about yourself and the reality you live in, is a terrific way to end up a bitter, unfulfilled and miserable person.” (Loc. 37)
Damn. For some reason this really hit me in the gut. The one thing I always try to be is honest with myself. When I volunteered for hospice, I noticed that people had not lived happy lives. They had not completed their bucket list. One gentleman lived in an ocean town and never saw the ocean.
Louis challenges people to be comfortable with themselves. I only question challenging their religion to do so. I am not a Christian, but I would not knock someone's religious beliefs for multiple chapters to emphasize what they might be doing “wrong”. I think this is the wrong tact to take - just my opinion.
Louis reminds me of a Southern Aunt who gives you that frank talk in the kitchen. Listen, take what you need, laugh...and have a great life.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
