This book has a very interesting concept. Maya is a normal girl until... she is turned into an Angel. This isn't the Angel that we know of, the celestial being in heaven, but a scientifically made monster.
So, now she has to deal with leaving her life behind, seeing a life she could have had but, can't truly have because of who she has become, and coming to terms with her life as an insatiable monster.
Sounds interesting? IT IS! So, why three stars?
Well, we learn a lot of background story and see the characters but, nothing really happens. The ending didn't even seem like an ending just.... that's it for the night. I wanted more growth, maybe some hope? Yet, I'm left with despair... Can they kill the enemy eventually? Maybe? Will they find a cure? Really not looking like it...
I have such mixed feelings. Because I want to like this book and I want to read more but, I really don't. I almost feel it would be a waste of time.
Another complaint, from the way the author writes I can't always tell if Maya is seeing the past/ we are seeing the actual past but, she isn't seeing it, or if it is just her own imagination of the situation. Like with Ryan.... or Gabe's talking about when Tarren and Tammy went to face off with Grand.
Also, I kept getting a Supernatural vibe haha but, that's probably because of the whole two brothers fighting evil.
And I really wanted to like Maya but, I wasn't given anything to hold on to. She might be quirky but, most of the time she is guilt-ridden and in such pain because of the hunger. So, I feel bad for her and it is hard to see her personality, although I understand it is hard to do because of the situation.
So, mixed feelings... I want to know the end but, I'm not sure I want to power through.
