I picked up this old book in a box of books, of which I only wanted a couple, but the excellent Art Nouveau cover and the travel genre I thought I would give it a go.
This book is made up of chapter length stories of historic discoveries - The New World and Christopher Colombus; Mexico and Hernando Cortez; Peru and Francisco Pizzaro; Canada and Jacques Cartier; Sir Walter Raleigh and Guiana; How Don Ferndinando De Soto With His Six Hundred Spaniards conquered the Land of Florida; Bougainville, the French Navigator at Tahiti; Africa and Mungo Park.
Unfortunately, it was a pretty dry rendition of these fairly well known and often told stories. I found them pretty hard to hold my interest, so I ended up skipping through it rather than reading every word.
I can't give it more than 3 stars - more accurately 2.5 stars rounded up.
