An interesting story, this book carried a twisty plot and unique author voice.
Though magic was used throughout, it was presented in an understated way. It felt more like the type used in the Wizard of Oz than the black magic of Harry Potter.
The themes of selflessness, compassion, and trust shone through well.
Narrator Oliver Hembrough did a fantastic job of infusing passion into his telling of this story.
One particular character who was an allegory of Jesus Christ was too immature and creepy for the role. I did not see why any of the other characters would trust such a brat, let alone rely on said character for aid. This vital piece of the puzzle was too unbelievable and disrespectful for my taste.
Overall, this was a cute story, but it did not blow me away, and I don't feel the need or desire to reread it.
Content: nudity (early-on only), replacement expletives, crude term, swearing by a river's name
