The level of satisfaction with this novel is mainly driven by the author's writing style, starting with the basics - an uber-quick pace, the perfect story structure, and extremely clever plotting (and plotting within the plotting). Then add to that an abundance of very flawed characters, the exact right level of exposition, and some creative self-awareness and you have a top-notch twisty thriller. The biggest reveal is about halfway through the book, so even if one remembers the basic beats of the movie, there is still enough here to feel fresh and a bit of a mystery.
