Even for a Penguin 60s Classic, this is a particularly short read!An excerpt (or a number of them run together seamlessly?) from the [b:Livy: The War with Hannibal 26674596 Livy The War with Hannibal Livy https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1444648941s/26674596.jpg 46706700].An very well selected excerpt which provides a pacy and interesting account of Hannibal's crossing of the Alps (as one might have expected from the title) from Spain into Italy in 218 BC. Known for his tactical nous and management of his men, in this account anyway, Hannibal comes across as very capable. Even when things could have turned pear-shaped he managed to do just enough to turn the situation, perhaps benefiting from a little luck at times. One of the more readable, well paced and interesting of the Penguin 60s I have read thus far.4 stars plus, but should have maximised its capacity with some more pages.
