Hello Beautiful covers three decades of a family navigating personal growth, independence, family trauma, different kinds of loss, and grief. If you loved The Dutch House and want a book about different people coming together and falling apart, then this is for you.
Some might find that the characters in this book feel wooden, petty, or selfish but that's the reality of having a family, friends, and growing up. People aren't totally bad, they aren't totally good, and they are often doing the best with what they've got based on how they grew up and what they know. Ann Napolitano leaves it to the reader to decide how they feel about everything that happens.
For a book that deals with depression, death, suicide, and family trauma, this was a surprisingly easy and enjoyable read.
