Tinbergen's "Social Behaviour in Animals: With Special Reference to Vertebrates" was to become a classic in the foundation of ethology, with a special role in the emergence of a biological and evolutionary based social science - that which will be later canonized as "sociobiology" by Edward O. Wilson.
Here, is the "Introduction to Animal Sociology", the original Dutch version, based on research undertaken during the 1920s-1930s, much of it written by Tinbergen while prisoner in a German camp, and published in 1946. The revised English translation will be first published in 1953, with numerous reprints, and a landmark 'new foreword' facsimile edition in 1990.
