Into the Fire

Can not be read as a standalone, since pretty much all of the storylines require at least some backstory. There are a lot of interwoven storylines, I have lost count of the POVs, and all of these storylines are pretty dark.

It's not my favourite book in the series, even if one of my favourites is sort of a main character (Dave!) and another makes a brief appearance (Chief!).
