I love The Office, and I really love watching episodes with the commentary on it. It has given me a chance to hear a lot from the writers and producers on the show, and it has helped me gain understanding of how brilliant Mindy Kaling is. Her performance as Kelly is fun, but hearing her perspective as a writer on the show is really what I love best, and then I loved getting to see her shine on The Mindy Project. All that to say that I really enjoyed reading Kaling's behind-the-scenes peek at not only her work on The Office but also her journey getting there. And I appreciate her frankness, her delightful humor, and her reliability. Love this book.
I loved this book. It was funny and light and refreshing. Side effects of reading this book: started following Mindy Kaling on Twitter; taking her advice that tweets should take less than 45 seconds to compose, or you are doing it wrong; relaxing about losing 10 pounds (sort of); considering joining a community theater stage crew (turns out community theater in SF is actually for professionals only; bummed); checking out her defunct blog, and following the shopping cues even though they are 2+ years old; becoming more open to the idea that shopping might not be torture; considering buying more clothes that are not t-shirts, per her thoughts on dressing during one's early thirties. In short, this book became my best friend for the four days that I spent reading it. Love!
DNF. Maybe I would enjoy this more if I hadn't listened to the audiobook. The chapters feel so disjointed and I haven't laughed out loud once.
