Eric and his Father, Mr. Marvin, travel from New York in 1916, to visit British Guiana in order to see if the Ratura Plantation can be made profitable. They find that the manager is dishonest and fire him immediately but that presents further problems as "The man must be absolutely mad to conceive of such a desperate scheme. It's worthy of being ranked with the most daring exploits of the old Buccaneers."
